Just Do It…
Is there anything you’ve been shying away from: something you keep delaying and have pushed to the back burner? It could be a course you’ve always intended to start, the business you’ve always wanted to set up or that conversation you’ve been putting off for ages.
For me, it was venturing on to social media. For years I have stood on the edge of the shore watching from a distance. It looked like fun, and then a wave of public opinion would lift someone up and smash them down because of an ill-judged (or even misconstrued) tweet or Instagram post. There seemed to be so many jobs lost and so much hurt caused that I wondered whether it was worth it.
There is a positive side of social media. It can be used to highlight injustices, share fun facts and various other useful information. I’ve realised we decide the voice we want to be. That’s the case whether we’re communicating on social media or face to face. We can determine whether we want to uplift others and encourage them or pull them down. The only difference is the veil of anonymity that social media provides.
My Nan used to say ‘every legitimate coin has a head and a tail’. At seven, I did not understand what she meant, but I repeated it as I did so many of her wise old sayings. As the years have gone by, I now understand that situations and people are not all good or bad. There are two sides (even if we can only see one). We can’t allow the bad we see to stop us pursuing the good.
So I decided I’ll just do it… venture into this world of blogging and tweeting. And I’ll try to stay positive and helpful. I’ll try to be me.
What about you? What have you been putting off? The Living Bible translation of Ecclesiastes 11:4 says ‘if you wait for perfect conditions you will never get anything done.’
So many times, I have found this to be true. Sometimes you have to just do it!
